Who put the "Posh" in Heavy Metal?

Who put the "Posh" in Heavy Metal?

Well, oneself and Ainsley Rubert Haversham III have just returned from a most delightful hiatus in Southern France where we toured the vineyards and ate sumptuous Bouillabaisse while basking in the glorious springtime sun.

Aye right!
I live in London and have to brace the rain and eat 50p noodles because all my bleedin wages go on renting a shoebox.
And I remember when noodles cost 18p. Scandalous.

So? Who put the Posh in Heavy Metal?

This man!

Mr Brucie, Bruce Dickinson
The man, the legend that is Bruce Dickinson.
Posh boy come Heavy Metal Vocalist extrordiner.
I love Iron Maiden and I love Bruce Dickinson. Hes a great entertainer.
What stage presence this guy has, opposed to all the self loving singers who just stand behind a mic and expect to be adored.
Entertain me twat.
The bubbles in my warm pint are more fucking interesting than you.

So, Brucie McBrucester, as I like to call him, is a boarding school lad (poor guy, bet he never got to experience the joy that was State school free warm milk?), trained fencer, Jumbo jet pilot as well as being the vocalist of one of the best Heavy Metal bands to ever grace this earth.
What a guy.

Here's one of my favorite Iron Maiden videos.
It even has posh school kids in it painting an old ruined Abbey in England. Class!

So what do Posh Englishmen drink?

Apart from their OWN GOD DAMN BREWED BEER?

Well, Pimms of course.

Now I love a bit of sunny weather Pimms Punch in the park as much as the next person but I have to hide it in A Buckfast bottle so as not to let my fellow Scottish country men down.
Need to keep up appearances like!

(I'm only kidding. I hide it in my boot).

So I've devised a little sunny weather Pimms ice lolly recipe that you can take to the Park for your posh picnics.
Enjoy, I'll be the one in the park drinking from my boot and peeing in the bushes, like every true Glaswegian should.

Pimms Ice Lollies

You will need ice lolly moulds, obviously.

ml Pimms
ml lemonade
Strawberries
1 orange
small portion cucumber
Small handful fresh mint

Slice the strawberries, cucumber and orange and rip up the mint. Divide between the lolly moulds.
Divide the Pimms and Lemonade between the moulds, give it a wee stir then put the sticks on and freeze overnight ready to take to the park.

Seriously, what the fuck?

I must break you!

This blog post today is dedicated to my hero, my muse, my father figure and my all time favourite action man of ALL time.

Dolph Lundgren

Now, what the hell does Dolph Lundgren have to do with Heavy Metal I hear you say?
Well, don't worry pal. I'll get to that in a minute.

But first let me just give you a run down of the reasons why I love Dolph so much.
My friends think I'm weird, I don't care. I will defend his honour to the death.
But here is my list.

  1. He's a very good actor (see, The Punisher, The final Enquiry, Dark Angel, One in the Chamber).
  2. He's a big hulking man machine.
  3. He's a really nice guy, can take fun of himself and is not a Hollywood  Douche. See below.

3. He is a smart cookie. With a Degree in Chemical engineering.

4. He's shit hot at martial arts.

5.  He stars in Showdown in little Tokyo which is one of the best buddy films ever made. Dolph Lundgren an Brandon Lee invented "Bromance".

6. Dolph, is an actor, writer , producer and director. A hard working man.

7. Dolph doesn't need to jump off planes, destroy jet fighters with cars, use massive guns, fly through the flippin air or do stupid unbelievable stunts.
He fights with his mitts.
Like a real man.

8. Dolph is responsible for my mantra in life for whenever I'm in a tight spot .
 "What would Dolph do"?

9. He is one of the most memorable action stars of all time.
He was the  first guy to play The Punisher, so good that his quote from The Punisher was used in Biohazards video for "Punishment".
See, that's where the Heavy Metal angle comes in. Aaaah!

10. Whenever I feel crappy I put on a Dolph film and it cheers me right up.

If I were ever to meet the man in person I would say ""Thank you".

Thank you Dolph because in a strange way, having never met you, you have made my life better by being in it.

Anyhoooooooo, so this is a foodie blog yes? I keep forgetting this.

So in honour of The Man, the Legend that is Mr Dolph Lundgren  I have named a cocktail for him.

I call it             The Lundgrenberry Punisher

This recipe uses Lingonberry juice (see what I did there with the name, Eh? Eh?)

Lingonberries are native to Dolph's neck of the woods. That's Sweden by the way.
They are similarish to blueberries. So if you are finding it difficult to get a hold of some lingonberry juice you
can substitute it for blueberry juice.

Get yourself a big pint glass and fill it with ice then add the following, give it a good stir then get it doon ye'.

25ml Vodka
250ml sweet cider,  Recorderlig wild berries is very good with this but you could just use a normal sweet apple cider
100ml Lingonberry juice

Here's a weird photo

Enjoy.

Yeah, Christmas Is Awesome!

Hello one and all. I hope you are having a very joyful festive season so far.
I have a question for you.
What makes Christmas even more awesome than it already is.
COCKTAILS!
Woo woo. Christmas cocktails. Oh what, oh what shall I make? Shall I check the deep dark depths of my drinks cupboard to see what's in there? (Note: this is not the Narnia cupboard. People who actually read my blog will know what this means. Hee hee. That's you Lynne).
Hmmmmmmmmmm, now let's see. Ooh, is that a tumble weed I see. I have some vodka, nashi pear wine,  a beer?????
No, no. this won't do. I need to make a little trip to the shops.

Here's an awesome Christmas video for you to watch while I nip out.
Thanks to Holley for introducing me to the delight that is Reuben - Christmas is awesome. Yey.

Stollen Cocktail

25ml Amaretto
25ml spiced rum
teaspoon soft brown sugar
Ice

Muddle the brown sugar with the rum and Amaretto till the sugar dissolves. Add ice cubes and sip in front of a warm log fire. Or your radiator.

Winter Hot Toddy

Cocktail Monday. Third time lucky

Hola, hola, hola.
Todays cocktail is in keeping with the Mexican theme. So we are having Raspberry Margaritas. I've ommited the salt for this recipe as it wouldn't go too well with the fruit.

Raspberry Margarita

2 measures (25ml) good quality Tequilla. If you buy crappy cheap tequilla your cocktail will taste crappy and cheap.
1 measure Cointreau
juice of half a lime
small handfull raspberries smooshed
Couple of crushed ice cubes

Place all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker or large glass. Cover and shake it to muerto. I probably didn't spell that right but hey, life's to short to spell correctly.

Pour into a glass and serve.

This Margarita is best made as fresh as can be.
So If you are lazy and use a Margarita pre mix I will personally come round to your house and slap you with a lace glove. xxx

IT HAS COME! COCKTAIL MONDAYS

It's Monday. Have a cocktail.
Let us make Mondays our official "COCKTAIL DAY".
Because Mondays are crap. Now we have a reason to look forward to them.
So check my blog every Monday and we'll all sit down and have a nice cocktail together.
Mind and only have the one though. Wink wink.
I don't want to be responsible for rising unemployment.

I nicked this recipe from a nice bar in town. I call it "The blootered Navy Seal"

The Blootered Navy Seal

25ml measure of spiced rum
25ml measure Kaluha
100ml milk
50ml single cream
handfull of ice cubes
Grated choccy for the top
A big straw

Put your ice cubes in a tall glass. Pour over the rum, Kaluha, milk and cream. Mix with your big straw. Sprinkle the grated chocolate on top.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Gotta go, I'm in the middle of making a big beefy pie and some banoffee cupcakes. And I need to catch up on some Columbo.
Toodles,
Angela. XXXXXXXXXXX
